DARPA converts french fry grease to JP8
Written on July 5, 2009 Machinery Lubrication reports that the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is exploring ways to convert french fry grease or plant-based “cellulosic and algae sources” into JP8 jet fuel. The goal, explained Barbara McQuiston, director of the Strategic Technology Office and program manager for biofuels, is to come up with non-petroleum sources to power military vehicles.
