Green Weddings are something to think about. Ok let’s start. We wantto not have any unusable waste from the event.

  • You could order flowers that are grown fresh.
  • The table settings could use washable place mats and napkins.
  • Use Glass glasses to drink from.
  • Washable plates and silverware.
  • Recycle your wrapping paper and bows.
  • Invitations and thank you cards from recycled paper. Buy 100% PCW recycled invitations that are processed without chlorine. Encourage guests to recycle their invitations, or have seeds embedded in the paper so that guests can plant the invitations and enjoy the flowers that grow from them.
  • If you have a keg of beer use washable cups not plastic. Unless they will be reusable.
  • Wedding dress and Brides maids purchase dresses made from recycled fabric or maybe a hand me down. Used if not. Buy a vintage dress and tuxedo from a resale clothing store. There may be an heirloom gown in your family.
  • Groom will most likely rent his tuxedo.
  • Horse and buggy instead of a limo.
  • Find a caterer who will provide vegetarian and organic entrees made with locally grown produce and locally pasture raised meats. Make sure your chef uses only fresh seasonal and local produce. People always talk about the wedding banquet so give them something to talk about. There’s nearly always food left over from weddings so reuse it the next day or give some to nearby homeless shelters.
  • Throwing birdseed is a good alternative to throwing rice ONLY if you are having a city wedding, or will be tossing birdseed in a manicured, non wild yard. Standard birdseed mixes contain invasive plants not native to your area, and throwing birdseed in a natural wedding spot, like in a nature preserve or state park can cause havoc to that ecosystem.

Start thinking what will be wasteful and what won’t. Save the world a littleat a time and enjoy your Green Wedding.
